Panel asks 535 schools in Delhi to refund excess fee of Rs 300 crore
Around 535 private schools in the national capital should refund extra fee they took from parents amounting to over Rs 300 crore, a fee-hike panel stated that was constituted last year following the Delhi High Court’s order. The committee headed by Justice Anil Dev Singh has identified 535 schools to be overcharging parents on the account of implementing recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission while not adhering to it.
“The committee has in the 10 interim reports recommended refund of excess fee recovered with 9 per cent interest against 535 unaided schools and that amount goes over Rs 300 crore,” an official statement said.
“In the 10th interim report the panel has directed 24 schools to refund the fee including 18 DAV schools, Laxman Public School Hauz Khas, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, The Pinnacle School Panchsheel Enclave, Greenway Modern Senior Secondary School, Cambridge School Sriniwaspuri and Bhartiya Vidya Bhawa’s Mehta Vidyalaya,” it added.
After submission of the eight interim reports, the Directorate of Education (DoE) had directed 472 schools to refund the amount within 15 days. However, till December last, only 43 schools had complied with the order.
